Oldsmobile: The brand that built Lansing

There are enthusiasts for every car brand you can imagine. Some are hard to understand why. When I met my friend Ryan, I learned pretty quickly that he is a huge car guy. But, unlike my other friends who love import cars, Ryan likes Oldsmobiles.

When I was growing up, Oldsmobiles were just boxy, ugly cars your aunt drove. The car above is what I associated with Oldsmobile. (Photo Credit: wikipedia
But Ryan educated me on the brand. The car in the foreground is Ryan's 1984 Hurst 442, which I featured here.

I visited the R.E. Olds Transportation museum here in town a while back. Here are a few shots from the museum.

The Oldsmobile brand was founded here in Lansing in 1897. Since then, a large number of the cars were built here. Lansing grew due to the automobile production here, and continued until April 29th, 2004.

.

The brand built a huge following over the years, and now, every year, Lansing hosts the Oldsmobile Homecoming on Fathers Day weekend.

.

It was a bit rainy this year, but that didn't stop the most loyal Oldsmobile Fans. People came in from several states away. There were cars representing every era from the company.

.

Enjoy the rest of the photos. Unfortunately, I didn't happen to catch much of the car info on most of these. Leave a comment if you have any questions, and I'll dig a bit deeper.
