As most of you were undoubtedly fans of BBC's Top Gear, you've all been looking forward to the new show since BBCTG effectively ended when Clarkson, Hammond and May left at the end of series 22 due to a disagreement between Clarkson and his producers. Punches may have been thrown and bridges burned.
But, thankfully, for Clarkson, Hammond and May, as well as for the millions of fans of BBCTG, Amazon picked up the whole crew, including executive producer Andy Wilman.
For those of you who haven't seen the show yet, I won't completely spoil it. What I will say, however, is that the new series is amazing, from what I just saw in Episode 1. The opening sequence might have invoked tears. (Hundreds if high-dollar cars driving across the Mojave). The new format, while largely similar to Top Gear, seems to work better. Their studio is now a large army tent. Every week, they are in a new city somewhere in the world. This week: the Mojave. Next week? Johannesburg, South Africa.
But, the best thing this week was the comparison test between the Ferrari LaFerrari, the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918. They did the tests in Portugal at the famed Autodromo do Estoril Circuit.
Overall, based on the first episode, I think the show is a bit better than Top Gear. Though, I feel they need to get a different racing driver, as their new driver, Mike Skinner (NASCAR driver), who fills the shoes of Stig from Top Gear, would fit better on Top Gear USA rather than on the Grand Tour. BUt that's just my opinion.
Anyway, go check it out for yourself!
